Altamisha Matthew, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, is a dynamic author, nurse, veteran, and advocate whose life’s work centers on healing, truth, and transformation.
Raised in a small town with big dreams, she began her journey of service in the United States Army at 18. An experience that has shaped her journey thus far.
I’m here to hold your hand! Through my workbook, My Mother Was My First Bully, I want you to find freedom and healing for your inner child. This is the work I had to do on myself, and I know there are millions of daughters like myself who need the breaking and healing I had to go through.
No matter your age, it’s time to reparent yourself. Do it for your own sovereignty and for the love you plan to give to everyone around you; especially your kids, if you plan to have any.
I AM
With a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from ECPI University in Virginia Beach, 2011 and M.Sc in Nursing in Leadership and Administration from Capella University. Following my honorable discharge, I transitioned into healthcare, becoming a licensed Registered Nurse with a diverse clinical background spanning Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse, Home Health, and Recreational Therapy.
My impact extends beyond bedside care, my research at Veterans Affairs hospitals in Oklahoma City and Tampa contributed to policy changes that improved health outcomes for veterans.
After embarking on my personal journey of reparenting and healing, I found my voice through writing. I am the author of My Mom Was My First Bully, a deeply reflective and transformative work that explores the complexities of childhood, emotional resilience, and self-reclamation.
This powerful foundation led me to expand my storytelling into bold new territory with the Army Heaux Tales series—an erotic thriller collection inspired by true events from her life in the military, offering an unfiltered look into identity, survival, and empowerment.
I served honorably for over a decade across multiple continents and commands.
My service took me across the globe, including assignments in Colorado, South Korea, Germany, and Oklahoma, where I worked alongside joint and multinational forces. Throughout my military career, I received numerous awards and commendations that reflect my discipline, excellence, and deep commitment to service.
I participate in speaking engagements that bridge health education and human storytelling. My work spans health literacy and patient and veteran advocacy, as well as reflective, book-centered conversations that explore my work as an author.
